Pink flowers @ Endau River

Another flower posting.

But this time I am not too sure what is name of this flower. I saw them while paddling the Endau River a few weeks back. The blooms sticked out of a mass of aquatic plants submerged just below the water surface. A small radiant pink/purple flower with a yellow center.

Anyone knows the name of this aquatic plant?

They were very pretty.

A few weeks ago was July.
It was a good time to paddle in July.
The river was full, clear, cold, inviting; submerging the white beaches along its banks. Not a single speck of sediment was in the river. Elephants calls, the rustling of primates, and the flight of the hornbills.

It was joy, joy, joy!

Hi Fullmoon, I noticed the shallowness of the river. Did you have to get off the kayak?

Those are pretty flowers. Nature never ceases to spring surprises. And, I wish you'd blog more often.

FH20 > plez take up the challenge and come to Endau. Am sure you will fall in love again...

Happy > the river looks shallow due to the rainwater filtered clear by the forest flowing into the river. I fell into the river like a potato bag - just to enjoy its coolness..

Andrew, a keen naturalist and outdoor-lover just emailed the following not-so-rosy report on the flower:

"the pink flowered water weed u shot in ulu endau seems to be a species of Cabomba, This feathery leafed aquatic plant grows small lilypad-like leaves which float the flower buds up to open above water to be pollinated by aerial insects. What is disturbing is that its native to the americas and u found it in pristine endau. Cabomba is an exotic pest weed in many parts of the tropics"

Oh dear, a pest weed? Such a shame when the flowers are so innocent-looking and pretty. Hope the weeds do not harm the environment around there.
