A new way to paddle

By 2010, a new waterway 5.5km long will be dug to link 2 rivers of Serangoon and Punggol. Between 20-60m wide, 4.4m deep, this new waterway will flow right into a housing project, and revolutionized public housing in Singapore. Apartments will be built near the water's edge, with F&B clusters along the waterway promenade.

Together with Sungei Serangoon (6km) and Sungei Punggol (6km), this 18km long waterway will become the 2nd longest navigable (read kayakable) inland waterway in Singapore. 3 existing wild islands will also be part of this exciting waterfront living project.
In the future they may as well relocate the Lower Seletar dam and link this waterway to the Lower Seletar Reservoir to add another 10km.

I hope there will be lots of steps or ramps for people to launch their boats conveniently. Create a channel that links to the sea.

But what I most hope for is that they will install "river lights" so that people can paddle at night. Now that will caused my plans to change, and move to Punggol to live.

Nice. I certainly hope PUB doesn't "regulate" this water body the way it does the others. We'll end up having to apply for a zillion permits before being able to padddle here!
