Gathering spirit
Missing pieces are gathering by the day for the Laos expedition. And the heartfelt thing is that these pieces are in place because of the generosity in people's hearts.
2 days ago, I received news that JB managed to buy a cache of food from our favorite food company, Singapore Food Industries. SFI has supported us often, and they had been our only food source for our major expeditons the past years. I would not know what to do without their pre-packed food, which are so easy to carry and taste so bloody good as well. Can't imagine packing food for 8 paddlers over 10 days otherwise.
Also finally confirmed all the logistics today, and they are sending out our permits as I write. Just hope it would not be too late for that! Incidentally our Laos co-ordinator is the same guy who did the logistics for National Geographic when they went up earlier this year. Also the same guy who paddled Mekong River from source to sea (understatement), and the author of "In the Naga's wake".
"Micko" Mike O'shea has been a great help stringing all our logistical demands together, with his company Wildside Asia. I am aware (and very happy!) our expeditions bring in business to local paddling outfits. While we could always organized things ourselves, there is nothing like looking out for each other.
I am also going to briefly mentioned, and do a longer entry later, on the lights situation. Again, a person who believes in what we are doing, had designed our lights at his own expense and time!
It is a shared world and partnerships can lead us to something greater than what we can do alone.
