Hin Boun River, Laos

Another amazing river located in the Khammouane Province is the Hin Boun River. Like the Xe Bang Fai, the Nam Hin Boun has a 7.5km river cave which is navigable by small crafts. Unlike the remote and inaccessible Xe Bang Fai river, kayaking trips along the Nam Hin Boun are popular among toursits to Laos. This is reflected by 2-3 river resorts sprouted along the banks of Nam Hin Boun.

It would be fun to explore another river cave, and the supposedly very scenic route along this river.

From JB's latest updates, it seemed the light source is working well. They are doing more tests in the next few days to observe the illum and battery life. One thing I am happy about is that this would not be our first time paddling in complete darkness, as several occasions this year had been night paddling.

I wished we have more time to explore these 2 amazing rivers. I will however treat this more like a recee trip to test out techniques for future cave river/underground river paddling expeditions.

Southeast asia just never ceases to amaze me with its paddling possibilities...
